Vorarlberg opens second site for state vaccination clinic

Vorarlberg’s state-run vaccination clinic has opened an additional location in Rankweil, ORF Vorarlberg reported. Vaccinations against Covid-19 are already available, while flu vaccinations are expected to start at the end of October.

The clinic’s locations in Dornbirn and Rankweil offer vaccinations against Covid-19, influenza, and measles, mumps and rubella. Vaccinations against shingles, pneumococcal disease, human papillomavirus, hepatitis B and meningococcal disease are free only for certain groups.

The HPV vaccine is free for people from age nine until their 21st birthday as part of Austria’s free childhood vaccination programme. Two doses are required. Since November 2025, pneumococcal and shingles vaccinations have also been free for people aged 60 and over and for younger people at risk.

Hepatitis B and meningococcal vaccinations are available free of charge at the clinic to 14 and 15 year old students who missed the vaccination at school or do not have access to a school doctor.

The state said demand for the free shingles vaccination is currently high. Supplies were delayed recently, but the vaccine is available again. Many older people are also seeking pneumococcal vaccinations.

Covid-19 vaccinations began on September 17. Appointments for flu vaccinations are expected to become available from the end of September, with vaccinations starting at the end of October. The state said appointments are generally well booked, although some short notice slots remain available.

Booster vaccinations, including those against diphtheria, tetanus, polio and whooping cough, are not provided at the clinic. The state advises people to contact general practitioners for these vaccinations. Travel medicine consultations will also be available from October through the health department at the state government office.
