MotoGP draws 101,000 visitors to Spielberg with few incidents

More than 101,000 people attended the MotoGP weekend in Spielberg, with the KTM home victory and only a few incidents contributing to a successful event, ORF reported.

Spanish rider Pedro Acosta won the Austrian Grand Prix for KTM. Police reported no problems during visitors’ arrival and departure, with only minor traffic delays.

Some 120 firefighters worked 12-hour shifts over the three days to ensure visitor safety. They responded 38 times, including to several unusually large fires that could quickly have become dangerous in the prevailing conditions. They also provided technical assistance and dealt with several traffic accidents.

The Red Cross treated around 150 people, 15 of whom were taken to hospitals. There were no major incidents, according to Bernd Peer, district rescue commander in Knittelfeld, who said cooperation among the emergency services had again worked very well.

Police issued around 100 administrative reports and 120 on-the-spot fines. Among the cases were illegal ticket sales. Officers also identified two private drone pilots, who face fines of several thousand euros.
