Police stop five intoxicated cyclists in Gastein

Police stopped five cyclists suspected of riding while intoxicated in the Gastein Valley in Pongau, ORF reported. The checks began after a 33-year-old cyclist crashed in Bad Hofgastein and suffered injuries. His blood alcohol level was nearly 1.8 per mille.

The Red Cross took the man to hospital.

During inquiries into the crash, police also identified three other cyclists. Police said breathalyser tests recorded levels between 1.14 and 2.40 per mille.

Shortly beforehand, officers had stopped another cyclist in the municipality of Dorfgastein. His reading was 1.26 per mille.

Police said all five cyclists will be reported to the competent authority.
