Police helicopter rescues two climbers after panic attack

Two men were rescued by police helicopter after suffering a panic attack on the Drachenwand via ferrata in St. Lorenz, Vöcklabruck district, ORF reported.

The men, aged 35 and 42 and originally from Iran, had set out from Vienna at about 11 a.m. on Saturday. At around 3:30 p.m., they reached Sector 11, known as the Grey Plate, where they suddenly panicked and could neither continue nor turn back.

Climbers directly behind them provided first aid, tried to calm them and alerted emergency services.

The Mondseeland mountain rescue service sent a team to the climbers. A police helicopter from Hörsching was also requested. After the men were secured, the helicopter crew rescued them and took them down to the valley.
