Three-generation flower business Doll closes in Salzburg

Salzburg flower business Doll will close permanently on September 30 after three generations, ORF reported. The clearance sale is under way, and much of the greenhouse space at the company’s traditional premises in the Nonntal district is already empty.

The property on Nonntaler Hauptstraße has been sold to an investor group, which plans to build a new development there. The business remains open for nine more sales days, but only a small number of customers are still visiting.

Owner Jörg Doll described the closure as an emotional experience. “It is sad,” he said, adding that the family business had been an emotional roller coaster for him.

Doll will not disappear completely from Salzburg. Its former branches at Borromäuspoint in Parsch and at Europark will continue under new operators, although the Doll signs have already been removed.

There is also a successor arrangement for grave maintenance. Three female employees have founded their own companies, Doll said, allowing them to continue part of their previous work while carrying forward what they learned at the business.

Customers including restaurateur Evelyn Brandstätter and chef Johanna Maier praised the business and said they were saddened by its closure. Doll said he would be left with “a full heart” as well as gratitude and humility. The old greenhouses in Nonntal are expected to disappear soon after the business closes.
