Lustenau beat Altach 2-0 in Vorarlberg derby

Austria Lustenau beat SCR Altach 2-0 in the Vorarlberg derby on Saturday, according to ORF. Antonio Verinac and Dominik Weixelbraun scored as the promoted side moved temporarily into sixth place in the Austrian Bundesliga. Altach remain bottom.

The match, the first between the two teams since May 18, 2024, was played in front of a sold-out crowd of 5,138 in Lustenau.

Altach started more strongly, but Patrick Greil was denied by Lustenau goalkeeper Domenik Schierl in the 19th minute. Two minutes later, a volley from Niklas Niehoff following a Greil corner missed the target.

Lustenau had threatened through Seydou Diarra before taking the lead in the 36th minute. Diarra delivered a precise cross and Verinac headed the ball in off the inside of the post.

Altach appeared to equalise through Ousmane Diawara in the 44th minute, but the goal was ruled out because Greil had been offside in the build-up.

Lustenau doubled their lead almost immediately. Verinac controlled the ball unchallenged in the penalty area before laying it off to Weixelbraun, who found the far corner with a low shot in first-half stoppage time.

Weixelbraun went close again seconds after the restart, with his effort narrowly missing the goal. Altach then had more possession, but Lustenau remained the more dangerous side for a time, with Diarra narrowly missing a third goal in the 57th minute.

Altach had little to show in attack apart from another disallowed goal, scored by Mike-Steven Bähre in the 68th minute, and missed chances by Diawara and Srdjan Hrstic. Lustenau held on to secure their first win over Altach after five unsuccessful attempts.
