Unknown trespassers leave deep footprints in fresh bridge concrete

Unknown people walked across a freshly concreted bridge in Peisching, in the Neunkirchen district, overnight Wednesday to Thursday, leaving footprints several centimetres deep and causing estimated damage of up to 10,000 euros, ORF reported.

According to the Neunkirchen city municipality, two people apparently ignored a barrier at a construction site by the Kehrbach stream on Furtweg and walked over the bridge. Because the bridge was concreted from both sides, the shoeprints are visible only from the middle onward. The concrete on the other side had hardened more.

No marks were visible at 7 p.m., leading the municipality to conclude that the people crossed the bridge during the night. The footprints are described as relatively small, and the municipality said it could not rule out teenage perpetrators.

The municipality said it must now determine how to repair the damage. Options include removing the affected concrete and resurfacing the bridge or repairing only the holes. The damage is difficult to assess precisely but is estimated at between 5,000 and 10,000 euros.

Legal action is being considered. Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to contact Neunkirchen city police on 02635/62000.
