Police find no armed man after Graz apartment call

A police operation in Graz ended without an arrest after a caller reported that an armed man was threatening him and his partner, ORF reported. The alleged threat was not confirmed.

Police, the Rapid Intervention Group and Cobra special forces were sent to Conrad von Hötzendorf Street in the Jakomini district after 4 p.m. on Thursday. A police dog unit also attended because a dog was inside the apartment.

Officers found only the caller, his partner and the dog at the address. A search outside the apartment also failed to find an armed person, police said on Friday.

During questioning, the couple gave contradictory accounts. Police said both showed clear symptoms of heavy drug use. It also emerged that a medical emergency over a suspected overdose involving the caller had been handled at the same address shortly before he made the call. Police said he had signed a Revers during that incident.

An official veterinarian took the dog away from the couple, and traffic restrictions were imposed in the area.
