Sunny weather to open Munich Oktoberfest

Sunny skies and temperatures of up to 24 degrees are forecast for the opening of Oktoberfest in Munich, BR reported. Visitors can leave their umbrellas, traditional jackets and cardigans at home for the festival’s opening on Saturday.

The German Weather Service expects plenty of sunshine and mild temperatures in southern Bavaria. It will be cooler than last year, when temperatures in central Munich reached 31 degrees, but the more moderate conditions are expected to be more comfortable. Last year, Oktoberfest medical teams responded to several heat-related incidents.

Sunday is also expected to be warm and dry, with temperatures of up to 25 degrees. A few clouds may appear in the afternoon, but no rain is forecast.

The weather could become less favourable temporarily on Monday morning, with some rain and cooler temperatures. Sunshine is expected to return in the afternoon.

Oktoberfest, the traditional folk festival on Munich’s Theresienwiese, begins on Saturday at noon when the first beer barrel is tapped. Visitors may enter the grounds three hours earlier to secure places in the festival tents.
