Police investigate death near Mieming via ferrata

Police believe a person found dead near the Tajakante via ferrata climbing route in Mieming, in Tyrol’s Imst district, died in an alpine accident, broadcaster ORF reported.

A German national discovered the body at about 10:30 a.m. on Thursday. An emergency doctor pronounced the person dead.

The victim’s identity and the exact circumstances of the incident remain unclear, police said. Reutte alpine police carried out the operation, and investigations are continuing.

Tyrol recorded about 941 alpine accidents from the beginning of May to the end of August, compared with 761 during the same period a year earlier, according to ORF.
