Vienna opens applications for youth parliament

Vienna has opened registration for its Youth Parliament, with applications from individuals aged 14 to 20 accepted until October 31, ORF reported.

The Vienna Youth Parliament will meet between November 2026 and May 2027. Around 300 young people take part each year.

Children can join the Children’s and Youth Parliament through groups from the final year of kindergarten or classes from the first to eighth school levels. Those sessions will take place at schools from January 2027.

Participants will develop concrete measures for Vienna’s children’s and youth strategy. They will discuss and refine their ideas with city administration staff before the final measures are drafted.

The process will conclude with an event at Vienna City Hall in May 2027, where the measures will be handed to the city government.

“Participation is not a question of age,” Youth Councillor Bettina Emmerling of the NEOS party said in a statement. “Only those who know the concerns of children and young people first-hand can make the right decisions for them.”
