Truck collides with Vienna bus, injuring eight

Eight people were injured when a truck collided with a Wiener Linien bus in Vienna’s Leopoldstadt district on Tuesday afternoon, ORF reported.

The crash happened at about 3:30 p.m. shortly after the Seitenhafen Bridge on Seitenhafenstraße. The bus, operating on route 79B, collided with the truck for reasons that remain unclear.

The truck overturned and the bus was badly damaged, with its doors and windows shattered.

Emergency services and firefighters mounted a large-scale response. The truck driver was the most seriously injured and was flown to hospital by rescue helicopter. He is not in life-threatening condition.

Five other people were also taken to hospital, while two were released into home care. Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
