Fire breaks out at Kaindl wood products plant in Salzburg
A large fire broke out Monday evening at the Kaindl wood processing plant in Wals-Siezenheim, Salzburg province, ORF reported. The fire was under control but had not yet been fully extinguished, and firefighting was expected to continue for several hours.
The fire reportedly started in the old wood processing section across two levels, triggering a level three special alarm. Firefighters from Wals-Siezenheim, Grödig and Anif, the Salzburg professional fire brigade and the Flachgau drone unit were deployed.
Kaindl spokesperson Johannes Leibetseder said the fire began at about 6:25 p.m. high up in the old-wood tower. A rubber conveyor belt also caught fire, causing the black smoke visible over the city. The height of the tower made the operation difficult.
No one was injured, according to Leibetseder. The cause of the fire remained unknown.
