Police investigate suspected murder at Garsten forensic centre

A 40-year-old inmate was found dead at the Forensic Therapeutic Centre in Garsten on Monday afternoon, with a 63-year-old inmate suspected of murder, ORF reported.
The Justice Ministry confirmed the suspicion on Monday evening. According to the ministry, the 63-year-old is believed to have intentionally killed the 40-year-old. No further details were immediately available, and the investigation was only beginning.
Emergency medical services, police and an official doctor were called to the centre. The Upper Austria State Criminal Police Office has taken over the investigation on suspicion of murder.
The Justice Ministry said it would examine the incident comprehensively, including all internal procedures. It also expressed its condolences to the victim’s family and relatives.
Both men were held under measures enforcement. According to the ministry, this applies to people who are considered legally accountable but are classified as dangerous because of a serious and enduring mental disorder, under Section 21(2) of Austria’s Criminal Code.
