Vienna police superheroes rappel onto hospital for sick children

Vienna police officers dressed as superheroes rappelled from a helicopter onto Klinik Donaustadt on Monday morning to entertain sick children, ORF reported.

Young patients who were briefly allowed to leave their wards watched the spectacle outside the clinic’s department of paediatrics and adolescent medicine. Officers from Vienna’s WEGA special police unit and a female officer from the Vienna State Criminal Police Office took part, appearing as Wonder Woman, Thor and Spider-Man.

Interior Minister Gerhard Karner, Vienna’s deputy police chief Dieter Csefan and department head Thomas Wagner also attended the operation, which is held annually at different children’s wards across Vienna.

Police dog Defcon helped search for gift bags for the children. According to a statement from the Vienna police directorate, the costumed officers also offered hugs and words of encouragement.
