Drunk driver drives at police officer during Wels stop

A 36-year-old driver from the Wels-Land district drove directly at a police officer during a traffic stop in Wels, forcing her to jump aside, ORF reported. The incident happened on Saturday night and was reported by police on Monday.

At about 10.20 p.m., a traffic police officer in the Oberfeldstraße area ordered an approaching car to stop. The driver ignored the instruction and continued towards the officer. He then fled, while police pursued him.

During the escape, the driver struck a parked car and left the scene. Officers initially failed to locate him but later found him at his home. A breathalyser test showed 1.02 per mille of alcohol in his blood.

Police temporarily confiscated his driving licence. The man will be reported on multiple counts.
