Vorarlberg records rise in far-right crimes

Vorarlberg police recorded 57 crimes with a far-right extremist background in the first half of the year, three more than in the same period last year, according to ORF. Six of the cases were antisemitic, compared with none in the first half of 2025.

The figures come from a response by Interior Minister Gerhard Karner to an inquiry from the SPÖ. On average, police recorded one far-right extremist act in Vorarlberg about every three days. Most of the 57 cases, 52 in total, fell under the Prohibition Act.

Four of the six antisemitic acts took place online. Three other acts were racially motivated. As in the first half of 2025, no anti-Islamic acts were recorded.

The number of people reported also increased. Police reported 44 people in connection with far-right extremist acts in the first half of the year, compared with 38 in the same period last year.

Across Austria, the number of far-right extremist acts also rose, increasing by almost 10 percent compared with the previous year.
