Four injured after police car collides with private vehicle in Salzburg

Four people were injured on Sunday morning when a police car carrying an arrested man collided with a private vehicle at a busy junction in Salzburg, ORF reported.

The crash happened at about 7 a.m. in the Schallmoos district, at the intersection of Vogelweiderstraße and Sterneckstraße. The police vehicle was travelling towards Fürbergstraße during an operation.

According to the Salzburg State Police Directorate, the police officer driving the vehicle entered the junction intending to continue straight towards Fürbergstraße. At the same time, a 33-year-old Romanian national entered the intersection in his car, intending to cross it straight towards the outskirts of the city.

The two vehicles collided at a right angle. The injured included the police officer, another police officer and the arrested man who was travelling in the patrol car. The driver of the private vehicle was also injured.

Police are investigating the exact circumstances of the crash. Alcohol tests on the Romanian driver and the police officer were negative.
