Wiesbauer plans 18 million euro expansion after floods

Delicatessen manufacturer Wiesbauer will invest about 18 million euros to expand its production site in Sitzenberg-Reidling in the Tulln district, ORF reported. Damage caused by flooding in 2024 helped create the urgency for the project.

The 4,800-square-metre expansion will include a sous-vide storage facility, a new crate-washing system and a 700-square-metre automated deep-freeze facility. The project is intended to modernise the company’s storage and logistics processes and simplify workflows.

Automation should reduce the physical workload for the site’s 255 employees. Workers will no longer have to move and stack goods by hand, allowing the available storage space to be used more efficiently. Wiesbauer also expects fewer errors because all data can be recorded electronically.

The 2024 floods caused about 15 million euros in damage. Trucks were left floating in the car park, meat worth five million euros became unusable and machinery could no longer be operated. Wiesbauer had already wanted to expand before the disaster, but the flooding made the project more urgent.

The company supplies about 2,500 restaurants, hotels and sausage stands in eastern Austria. The expansion is scheduled for completion by the end of 2028.
