Firefighters rescue dog from burning house in Fohnsdorf

Firefighters rescued a family dog from a fully burning house in Fohnsdorf in the Murtal district on Saturday, ORF reported. The residents escaped safely, but the dog initially remained inside.

The fire broke out around midday near Fohnsdorf’s outdoor swimming pool. The detached house was already fully ablaze when firefighters arrived. They first extinguished the upper floor and later found the dog hiding behind a cupboard during the follow-up operation.

The room was sufficiently clear of smoke for firefighters and the owner to bring the dog outside. Initial information indicated that it had not been injured.

The family lost its home in the fire. A call for material donations on Saturday evening received a strong response, and organisers said enough donations had already been collected. The municipality plans to set up a donation account for the family on Monday.

The cause of the fire was not known on Sunday afternoon. Police fire investigators will now examine how it started. No one was injured.

Seven fire brigades, with 18 vehicles and 75 firefighters, attended the operation. Police and emergency medical services were also at the scene.
