Vorarlberg receives 23 responses to planned beaver regulation

Twenty-three responses have been submitted to Vorarlberg’s planned beaver regulation, including two from private individuals, ORF reports. The regulation would introduce preventive measures to reduce damage caused by beavers and, as a last resort, allow individual animals to be captured and killed.

The consultation period ended this week. Almost all submissions came from municipalities, conservation organisations and associations.

The number of responses was not particularly high, according to state councillor Christian Gantner of the Austrian People’s Party. He said the proposal concerned a regulation rather than an amendment to a law.

The relevant department will now review the submissions and amend the regulation where necessary. It is expected to come into force by October.
