police, Salzburg, speeding

Police in Lamprechtshausen, in Salzburg’s Flachgau district, stopped a 23-year-old man driving at 163 kilometres per hour on Friday evening, ORF reported. The speed limit on the section of the Lamprechtshausener Straße was 80 km/h.

The driver, who is from the Pinzgau region, was travelling at more than twice the permitted speed. Police said the speed would have resulted in a fine even on a motorway.

Officers confiscated the man’s driving licence, banned him from continuing his journey and temporarily seized his car. The 23-year-old will be reported to authorities. Police said vehicle confiscation is extremely rare and used only for particularly serious speeding offences.
