Climber seriously injured in seven-metre fall on Lamsenspitze

ORF reported that a 35-year-old Austrian man was seriously injured after falling about seven metres during a climbing tour on the northern face of Lamsenspitze mountain in the Karwendel mountain range.

The man was climbing with his 50-year-old partner as part of a 17-member group on the Supernase route in the municipality of Vomp in Schwaz district. He was leading the climb when a foothold broke shortly before a belay station at about 1.30 p.m. on Friday, causing him to fall into the rope.

He struck his left foot on a rock ledge and suffered serious injuries. His climbing partner alerted emergency services, while another 39-year-old climber from the group reached him and provided initial care. The injured man was then lowered to the foot of the wall.

Dense fog initially prevented the emergency medical helicopter from reaching the accident site. Eight members of the Schwaz mountain rescue team went to the scene and transported the man towards the valley after he received initial medical treatment. When weather conditions improved, the Heli 4 helicopter flew him to Kufstein Hospital.
