Organisers move Take the A-Train festival to spring

The Take the A-Train Festival in Salzburg will leave its autumn slot after this year’s edition and return in spring 2027, ORF reported. The four-day festival began on Thursday and runs until Sunday in the Elisabeth-Vorstadt district, with concerts at squares, hotels, shops and the Jazzit venue near Salzburg’s main railway station.

The festival opened with a musical journey on a city trolleybus. A performance conceived by Salzburg artist Pilmaiquen took place between the seats as the bus travelled through the city.

The opening continued on foot from Salzburg’s main railway station to Jazzit, the festival’s main venue and hub. Jazz drummer Camillo Jenny of Stubnblues 2Punkt0 described the event as making the district more visible.

Around 30 concerts are being held, and ticket sales have been strong. Jazzit managing director and festival organiser Jürgen Vonbank said attendance had increased over the past three years, with last year’s events reaching almost 98 percent capacity. He also welcomed the return of more young people to the concerts.

The sold-out opening concert at Jazzit featured British jazz musician Alfa Mist and his band.

Festival founder and co-organiser Andreas Neumayer said the autumn event was being discontinued because Salzburg now has an oversupply of events in September. The next Take the A-Train Festival will take place in April 2027, with a new appearance and several additional venues planned.
