Nenzing to impose 30 km/h limit on nearly all local roads

Nenzing will introduce a 30 km/h speed limit on almost all municipal roads within the town from September 14, ORF reported on Friday. The municipality expects the measure to improve road safety, reduce noise in residential areas and create better conditions for pedestrians and cyclists.

The new regulation coincides with the start of the new school year. A small number of road sections, as well as state and priority roads, will be excluded. The municipality said local traffic signs will determine where the new limit applies.

Nenzing said lower speeds give drivers more time to identify hazards and react. This would particularly benefit less protected road users, including children, older people and those with reduced mobility.

The additional journey time is expected to be limited. According to the municipality, travelling two kilometres at 30 km/h instead of 40 km/h takes about one minute longer.

Nenzing is one of around a dozen Vorarlberg municipalities to introduce a 30 km/h limit on municipal roads. They include Altach, Bregenz, Höchst, Lochau, Meiningen and Satteins.

A road traffic law amendment introduced two years ago also made it easier for municipalities to impose 30 km/h limits on state roads.
