Ehrenhausen, fire, rescue

ORF reported that a 63-year-old woman was rescued unconscious from her heavily smoke-filled flat in Ehrenhausen, in the Leibnitz district, on Thursday.

The owner of the apartment building noticed thick smoke coming from the first-floor flat and immediately sought help from a forklift operator working nearby. The 48-year-old used the vehicle to break a window, then climbed into the flat with a ladder and opened the front door from inside.

He and the building owner found the woman unconscious in a bedroom. They carried her outside and called an emergency doctor.

The woman was taken to the LKH Wagna hospital with injuries of undetermined severity. The smoke was caused by food left burning on the cooker.
