Explosion at Ticino power plant triggers large rescue operation

An explosion at the Ritom power plant in Piotta, Ticino, triggered a large-scale emergency response, SRF reported, citing several media outlets. The cause was not immediately clear.

RescueMedia reported that part of the building may have collapsed and that several people may have been affected.

Firefighters, rescue crews and a Rega helicopter were deployed to the scene. Police cordoned off the affected area, according to tio.ch.

Authorities had not yet officially confirmed the incident.
