Woman fights off attempted rape in Vienna city centre

A woman in her mid-20s fought off an alleged attempted rape in central Vienna early Sunday, ORF reported. She struck the suspect with her handbag and raised the alarm.

The woman was on her way home when the man allegedly grabbed her. When he reportedly tried to rape her, she shouted for help and defended herself with her handbag, prompting him to try to flee.

Passers-by responded to her cries and held the suspect until police arrived. The 38-year-old Hungarian citizen was provisionally arrested and taken to a correctional facility.

He has denied the allegations. Further investigations are under way.
