Driver loses licence after tailgating on A14

A driver will lose his licence for six months after tailgating another vehicle on the A14 motorway, ORF Vorarlberg reported. At 139 km/h, he kept just seven metres from the car in front, overtook on the right and forced his way into a narrow gap.

A police officer noticed the driver’s reckless behaviour in March. Video measurements showed that the distance to the vehicle ahead amounted to just 0.18 seconds. After the driver moved into the gap between two cars, another vehicle had to brake to avoid a rear-end collision.

The district authority then revoked the driver’s licence for six months. He challenged the decision, but the state administrative court rejected his appeal.

In court, the driver questioned the measurement and argued that he needed his licence for work. The judge rejected both arguments. He must also complete a retraining course.
