Tamsweg firefighters develop safety handbook with European partners

The Tamsweg Volunteer Fire Brigade in Salzburg’s Lungau region has developed a handbook with three partner emergency organisations from Hungary, Romania and Italy, ORF reported. The guide is intended to prepare people aged 18 to 30 for dangerous situations in everyday life.

It explains, among other things, how to provide first aid in different emergency situations, project leader Krisztian Biros said. Members of the Tamsweg brigade also visited various fire services during the project, which was supported by the European Union through the Erasmus international exchange programme.

Each organisation contributed specialist knowledge. The Italian fire service focused on civil protection, while the Romanian fire service shared expertise in dealing with wild animals, senior fire brigade commander Patrick Bacher said.

“Every fire brigade brings different experiences and perspectives. We can only benefit from that,” Bacher said. Biros and Bacher also said the project led to many friendships.
