Wöginger wins third term as ÖAAB chairman

August Wöginger was re-elected as federal chairman of the Austrian Workers’ and Employees’ Association (ÖAAB) on Saturday afternoon in Stadt Haag, Lower Austria, ORF reported.
Wöginger won 95.9 percent of the vote, securing the position for a third time. His renewed candidacy had recently drawn criticism over the appointments-for-favours affair, including from within the organisation.
The ÖAAB federal congress was originally scheduled for April but was postponed to autumn by a circular resolution. It was delayed several times before going ahead on Saturday.
At the previous election in 2021, Wöginger was confirmed as federal chairman of the ÖVP organisation with 96.1 percent.
New deputies
Wöginger stood for re-election with a partly new team of deputies. The new vice chairpersons are expected to include Romana Deckenbacher, head of the Christian trade unionists, Veronika Marte from Vorarlberg and Günther Ruprecht from Styria.
The existing deputies Christine Haberlander, Christiane Teschl-Hofmeister from Lower Austria and Dominik Mainusch, first vice-president of the Tyrol state parliament, are also expected to be confirmed.
