21-year-old suffers severe electric shock in Vienna

A 21-year-old was seriously injured by an electric shock while working on an aerial work platform in Vienna’s Margareten district on Friday evening, ORF reported. Another worker suffered minor injuries.

According to police spokesperson Irina Steirer, the 21-year-old was carrying out a measurement with a folding ruler from the platform’s work basket at around 7 p.m. on Margaretengürtel when the electric shock occurred. He fell from the basket onto the upper part of the platform and was left with severe burns.

The professional fire brigade rescued him using a rescue stretcher and handed him over to emergency medical services. He was taken to hospital with severe burns to his upper body and face.

A 23-year-old man was found injured in the track area. He said he had witnessed the incident and could see only blurry images after the flash. He also suffered minor injuries to his forearm and was taken to hospital.
