Car collides with electric wheelchair in Klagenfurt

A car collided with an electric wheelchair crossing the road in Klagenfurt on Friday morning, injuring both the 66-year-old wheelchair user and the driver, ORF reported.

The crash happened at about 11 a.m. on Ebentaler Straße near house number 184. A 42-year-old man from Klagenfurt was driving north when the 66-year-old man from Klagenfurt-Land district crossed the road in his electric wheelchair.

The driver told police that a bus had been approaching him and that the wheelchair user suddenly appeared from the left, immediately behind the bus. Despite braking sharply, he was unable to prevent the collision.

The wheelchair user suffered injuries of undetermined severity and was taken to Klagenfurt Hospital by ambulance. The driver also went to the hospital with minor injuries.

Police are asking witnesses or anyone with information about the accident to contact the Klagenfurt traffic inspectorate on 059133/2588.
