Lower Austria youth groups race to complete 42-hour projects

Forty-six Landjugend groups across Lower Austria have 42 hours to complete community projects whose details they learn only at the start, ORF reported.

The groups began work on Friday, with projects taking place from Puchberg in the south through the Mostviertel and Weinviertel to Litschau in the northern Waldviertel.

Participants receive their assignments shortly before the start and must turn them into finished projects for their communities before the countdown ends.

In Groß Gerungs in Zwettl district, the group is creating a themed hiking trail with play and activity stations for children. It will also renovate an existing bridge and build two rest areas.

In Nußdorf ob der Traisen in St. Pölten district, the group is restoring the historic Rossschwemme water facility. Plans include paving the ground, adding seating and uncovering the facility again.

In Nappersdorf-Kammersdorf in Hollabrunn district, the group is building a beach volleyball court with seating within the 42-hour period.

The project marathon requires both practical skills and organisation. Participants must coordinate materials and workflows while completing as many tasks as possible within the limited time. The projects are due to be finished and presented in the communities on Sunday.
