Floridsdorf Bridge reopens fully after major repairs

Floridsdorf Bridge in Vienna will reopen fully to traffic on Saturday after scheduled renovation work, ORF reported. The bridge, an important Danube crossing between Floridsdorf and Brigittenau, will again be available without restrictions to cars, cyclists and public transport.

Work on the 47-year-old bridge began on July 7. During construction, traffic in each direction was limited to one lane.

The project included the replacement of six expansion joints with a combined length of about 202 metres. These components accommodate movements in the bridge and ensure vehicles can cross safely.

Workers also carried out local repairs to the supporting structure, as well as concrete repairs to the abutments and piers. The measures are intended to improve the bridge’s structural condition and extend its service life. The tracks used by tram line 31 were repaired at the same time.
