Traffic stop leads police to two cannabis grows in Vienna

Investigations launched after a traffic stop in the Neusiedl am See district led police to search an apartment in Vienna, ORF reported. Officers seized two indoor cannabis-growing operations, drugs, cash and a prohibited weapon.

The investigation began after police stopped a man who had consumed narcotics. Officers later seized cannabis flowers and identified a suspected 45-year-old supplier.

With the results of the investigation, authorities obtained an order to search the suspect’s Vienna apartment. The search was carried out at the end of August with support from WEGA, a special police unit.

Police found two active indoor cannabis operations with 51 plants. They also seized about 1.2 kilograms of cannabis flowers and cannabis resin, psychotropic mushrooms, around 2,000 euros in cash and a telescopic baton.

Investigators suspect the man produced about 13.2 kilograms of cannabis flowers and put around 7.3 kilograms into circulation. The Vienna public prosecutor’s office ordered his admission to Vienna-Josefstadt prison.

The investigation is continuing to establish the exact background and extent of the suspected drug trade.
