Anna Bachmann takes European bronze after 1,000-kilometre ride

Vorarlberg ultracyclist Anna Bachmann won bronze at the European Championships in unsupported ultracycling, completing the Race Across Austria in 62 hours and 57 minutes, ORF reported.

Bachmann covered around 1,000 kilometres and 16,000 metres of elevation gain from Nickelsdorf in Burgenland to Feldkirch. In the unsupported event, riders must manage their own food, rest, navigation and repairs. Support vehicles and outside assistance are banned, as is riding in groups.

Bachmann finished third in the women’s under-50 category, behind Germany’s Michaela Freudenstein and Katharina Stockbauer. The Feldkirch rider is one of Austria’s most successful ultracyclists. She won the 2,200-kilometre Race Around Austria in 2018 and became Austrian champion in the two-person 24-hour event with Elena Roch in 2025.

About 400 competitors took part this year. They started at staggered times because drafting in groups is not permitted. Riders had a maximum of 88 hours to complete the 1,000-kilometre distance, while Bachmann finished in just under 63 hours.
