Woman arrested after alleged knife attack on husband

A 60-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after allegedly attacking her 79-year-old husband with a kitchen knife during an argument at their home in Vienna’s Simmering district, ORF reported. Police said she had allegedly attacked him with a fire poker the previous day.

The man suffered cuts to his face in Tuesday’s confrontation, fled the house and called emergency services. During the investigation, he told police that his wife had already attacked him with the fire poker on Monday.

The woman initially fled but was found at a hotel in Vienna’s Landstraße district that evening. A police spokesperson said she had a blood alcohol level of about 1.6 per mille.

Police seized the suspected weapon, a kitchen knife. Before she was taken to a remand prison, authorities imposed bans on entering and approaching the home, as well as a temporary weapons ban. The investigation is continuing.
