Vorarlberg bookshops deliver thousands of schoolbooks

Bookshops in Vorarlberg are delivering thousands of books ahead of the new school year, ORF reports. Ländlebuch, a bookshop in Bregenz, is supplying more than 82,000 books to 48 schools.

Bookshops must have a contract with the Republic of Austria to take part in the national schoolbook scheme, said Thomas Steiner of Ländlebuch. Schools then decide which bookshop receives their orders, with principals responsible for selecting a supplier.

Brunner, another bookshop, is also operating at full capacity and is supplying 53 schools. The company referred to a federal schoolbook decree stating that orders should go to the nearest bookshop, but acknowledged that suppliers compete for the contracts.

Brunner said the market is constantly changing, with some bookshops closing and others opening. Deliveries have already begun, and at the Gymnasium in Lustenau, a school, the books for the new academic year were ready to be distributed.
