A 45-year-old forestry worker was seriously injured after becoming trapped between two trees during logging work in Greinbach in the Hartberg-Fürstenfeld district on Tuesday morning, ORF reported.
The man was working in a sloping forest at about 10.20 a.m. when a spruce he was cutting with a chainsaw became wedged. After he drove a wedge into the tree, it twisted as it fell, trapping him between the falling tree and one that had already been cut down.
The logs then rolled away and the man slid down the slope. His son, who had witnessed the incident from nearby, immediately provided first aid and alerted emergency services.
Firefighters from Penzendorf, using a team of 15, rescued the injured man. After receiving first aid, he was flown by rescue helicopter to LKH Graz hospital.
