Salzburg unemployment rises slightly in August

Unemployment in Salzburg rose slightly in August, with the rate reaching 4.1 percent, ORF reported on Tuesday, citing the Public Employment Service. That was 0.2 percentage points higher than in August 2025.

A total of 11,700 people were registered as unemployed with the service at the end of August, 550 more than a year earlier. Austria’s unemployment rate stood at 7.2 percent.

Long-term unemployment also increased. Women saw a slightly larger rise in unemployment than men.

Among people under 25, the unemployment rate fell by three percentage points. The largest increase was recorded among people aged 50 and older, with nearly 3,500 registered as unemployed at the end of August.
