Munich cabaret institution Lach- und Schießgesellschaft will move back to the Schwabing district after less than a year at the Gasteig cultural centre, BR reported. From late October, it will perform at the TamS Theater, just a few steps from its former home.

The move follows the end of the FatCat temporary-use project at Gasteig. Its lease expires at the end of September, when the long-delayed renovation of the cultural centre is due to begin.

The stage moved from Schwabing to Haidhausen in November last year, presenting the relocation as the beginning of a new chapter. The company now described its time there as “a short but very beautiful chapter”.

Till Hofmann, head of Lach- und Schießgesellschaft, initiated the previous move after the legendary cabaret venue had been based in Schwabing for decades. The audience nevertheless remained loyal, he told the German Press Agency.

Hofmann said one evening featuring cabaret performers Gerhard Polt and his Austrian colleague Josef Hader could alone have filled Munich’s Olympiahalle twice. A decline in audience numbers is therefore not expected to follow the latest move.
