Five teenagers injured after car crashes into tree in Zwettl

Five teenagers were injured when a car crashed into a tree on the B36 road in Zwettl on Sunday evening, ORF reported, citing police. The 17-year-old driver is believed to have lost control after overtaking.

The crash happened at about 8.40 p.m. The driver, from the Waidhofen an der Thaya district, reportedly went onto the right-hand verge before the car struck the tree. The vehicle also carried a 14-year-old, a 16-year-old and two other 17-year-olds, all from the Zwettl district.

The driver became trapped in the car and was freed by firefighters. The Christophorus 2 emergency helicopter took him to St. Pölten University Hospital, according to the fire service.

Two other passengers suffered serious injuries, while the remaining two sustained minor injuries. All five occupants were taken to hospitals.
