Italy follows probe after fatal Aarau shooting

Italy is closely monitoring the Swiss investigation into a fatal shooting in Aarau, SRF reported. A 22-year-old Italian woman from the Abruzzo region was killed, and several other people were injured, some seriously.

The shooting took place early Sunday at a rave party at the Aarau horse-racing track. An unknown number of attackers fired several shots. The motive remains unclear, and police are continuing a nationwide search for the suspect or suspects.

The woman, an Italian citizen who lived in Switzerland, had moved to the country only recently to work in the hospitality sector. Her parents are expected to arrive in Switzerland soon and will be supported by a team from the Italian embassy.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said on X that her government was following developments closely and that those responsible had to be identified quickly. She also said she trusted the work of the Swiss authorities.

The fatal shooting was the main topic on Rai Uno’s evening news in Italy on Sunday, which showed footage from Aarau and photographs of the victim.
