Eisenstadt agricultural school adds beekeeping as a subject

The Agricultural Vocational School in Eisenstadt will offer beekeeping as a new subject from autumn 2026, ORF reported. The course aims to provide practical knowledge about the importance of bees in local agriculture.

Students will complete 24 lessons to obtain a certificate that also counts towards the Skilled Worker in Beekeeping course. Five organically certified bee colonies will be available for practical training, cared for by second-year students. Each colony contains around 35,000 bees.

The practical work is also expected to produce the first “Landhaushonig” honey. Students can obtain the certificate at the end of the course, giving them a foundation for further training.

The new subject will also provide access to the AMA new entrant grant and special funding from the beekeepers’ association.
