Motel One expands Salzburg presence with two hotel takeovers
Munich-based hotel chain Motel One is expanding in Salzburg and across Austria, ORF reported on Sunday. Two takeovers are set to double the group’s number of hotels in the city this year.
The company is expected to take over the Hyperion Hotel on Rainerstraße, opposite the Congress Centre. The Federal Competition Authority has already approved the merger. Motel One has neither confirmed nor denied the takeover in response to an inquiry.
A spokesperson confirmed the takeover of the H Plus Hotel at Salzburg’s main railway station. The spokesperson did not say whether employees at the two hotels would be retained. In 2023, the hotels’ previous owner faced criticism after dismissing employees who wanted to establish a works council.
Motel One has operated two other hotels in Salzburg for several years. One is on Elisabethkai beside the Salzach and next to the Mitte heating plant. The other is on Alpenstraße opposite the Salzburg State Police Directorate.
The Alpenstraße hotel was the Munich chain’s first property in Austria 15 years ago. According to the company’s website, Motel One now operates 14 hotels across Austria and almost 110 worldwide.
