Five injured after two cars collide near Kitzbühel

Five people were injured when two oncoming cars collided on the B161 Pass-Thurn Road near Kitzbühel on Saturday afternoon, ORF Tirol reported. The cause of the crash remains unclear.

The accident happened shortly after 5 p.m. A 50-year-old driver travelling from Kitzbühel was carrying two children, aged seven and 10. Two 25-year-olds were in the other car. One of the vehicles overturned after the collision.

All five occupants, who are Austrian citizens, were conscious, according to police. They were taken to hospitals in Kufstein and St. Johann with injuries of unknown severity.

The B161 was closed for about 90 minutes, causing long tailbacks towards Mittersill, St. Johann in Tirol and the Brixental valley.

The response involved 27 firefighters and six vehicles from Kitzbühel Volunteer Fire Brigade, Kitzbühel police, Christophorus 4 rescue helicopter, an emergency doctor, four Red Cross vehicles and the St. Johann road maintenance department.
