Police chase follows camper van theft in Innsbruck

Police stopped a stolen camper van in western Innsbruck early Saturday, but three suspected thieves escaped, ORF reported.

The van, which had foreign licence plates, was parked on Fürstenweg when its alarm went off at about 4 a.m. Police were alerted as the unknown suspects fled towards the city in the vehicle.

Officers stopped the van near Bachlechnerstraße, but three men ran away. Police launched a large-scale search involving numerous patrols and sniffer dogs, but found no trace of the suspects.

According to police, the vehicle’s owners were not inside the camper when it was taken. The van was seized and examined for forensic evidence. The circumstances of the attempted theft remain unclear and the investigation is continuing.
