Four flee after teenager leads Vienna police chase

Four people fled on foot after a 16-year-old driver led police on a chase on Vienna’s Südosttangente road on Friday evening, ORF reported. Police fired several warning shots during the pursuit.

The teenager was driving south when a motorcycle officer signalled for him to stop. He ignored the order and accelerated to up to 140 kilometres per hour. Abrupt braking, lane changes and tailgating endangered several other road users. He was eventually forced to stop at the Altmannsdorfer Straße exit because of a traffic jam.

The four occupants ran from the car along the exit. The motorcycle officer pursued them on foot and fired several warning shots, causing one person to stop. Additional police officers and a police helicopter apprehended two more people, but the driver was not among them. Police later identified the 16-year-old Serbian national. Criminal and numerous administrative charges were filed.
