15-year-old flees police and causes serious crash in Ried

A 15-year-old driver caused a serious crash while fleeing a police patrol in Ried im Innkreis, ORF reported. A 35-year-old driver was seriously injured when the teenager collided with his car.
Police tried to stop the teenager shortly after midnight on Saturday in the town of Ried im Innkreis. The boy, who is from the Ried district, turned the car around and drove away at high speed.
At the intersection of Brucknerstraße and Lubergasse, he reportedly overtook a car whose 35-year-old driver was turning left. The vehicles collided and were thrown into a garden.
Police officers provided first aid until emergency services arrived. The 35-year-old was taken to Ried Hospital with serious injuries. The 16-year-old passenger in the teenager’s car was slightly injured.
Police found signs that the 15-year-old was impaired by drugs. A voluntary urine test was positive for THC, and a clinical examination found that he was unfit to drive.
Police also found a grinder containing cannabis residue in the car. The teenager was reported to the public prosecutor’s office and the district authority.
